winter sun

As I sat eating lunch with Cailin on our office balcony, shivering in the cold winter air, I dreamt of a cosy sun room / conservatory where I could lay on a couch and look through a ceiling of glass at the clouds rolling through the sky.

I did a quite Pinterest search to help me feel warmer and stumbled upon this story by Hus & Hem. (It's in Swedish but my Google Chrome browser translates it for me.. yeah I wish I could speak another language).. As you can see, I'm pretty sure the couple who designed this conservatory actually broke into my head and have designed it for me, because the whole thing is perfection.. Like, I want to be sick with how amazing it is.

The brick wall at the back brings a grounding to the building and adds a level of privacy, which is almost a contradiction in a room of glass. Mis-matched chairs are a small addiction of mine that (thankfully?) my hip pocket can't afford. The greenery, especially in the chandelier brings the garden in and makes you feel like you're almost in a Mad Hatters Tea Party but a lot more fabulous.

I imagine children playing in a garden and stumbling upon this wondrous beauty as the run through bushes. A little like the Secret Garden but in reverse...

a for antler

I have a fondness for all thing antler.. whether it be a chandelier or a painted table number. There is something romantic & soft, yet strong about them. One day I will own an antler chandelier...

Take a look at this stunning blog post by Green Wedding Shoes.. they are going on my inspiration list for sure. *swoon*

I have returned..

So I'm a bit of a serial blog starter. I can't actually remember how many blogs I've started in my time, but there have been a few... I'd love to know if they are still all out there somewhere in the deep blue ocean of the internet.

I fought my natural instincts to start a new blog and decided to pick this one up again. I've revived the look.. though I'm sure that will change again.. and given myself a new direction. Since my last post, I decided to take up studying Colour & Design and then jump into Interior Styling. Ok wow. Best decision of my life. Interiors are written into my bones and my love for all things pretty will never fade.

At the moment, I am drawing my inspiration from none other than the incredible funny and talented Emily Henderson. She is everything I want to be.. is that a tad weird to say? Maybe, but I don't care. I hope to be like her when I grow up one day.

Something I'm going to do on my blog is to do 'notes-to-self' of great tips and tricks I discover along the way.. and here is the first.

note-to-self.. The best style advice I ever got was dress your house like you dress yourself.  If you tend to look really put together, perfectly accessorized, hair perfectly done, everything tailored then most likely that is how your house is or should be.

young. wild. free

I actually don't know how to put into words the feeling I haven't been able to shake for weeks. Trust me. I've tried. This is the fourth time I've started this post. Perhaps it's also why I haven't written anything for a while.. Ironic. Writing a blog for something you can't describe.. but here are some things that might be able to put words to it for me... This is all I have for now.

Office Joy

At work, I have a big corner desk with a massive window to see the world.

Isn't that the dream? Lots of space and a view? Sure, if your dream includes a not-so-fabulous pine desk, with a glass panel separating me from my partner-in-crime, Peggy and a gorgeous view of the sunset until about 4pm when the sun starts to blind me from behind me computer screen.

If I'm going to make my bedroom look pretty for the 50-something hours a week I'm not awake, perhaps I should make my desk pretty for the 40-something hours a week I'm sitting at it. So, here is today's achievement. It's only a small patch (I hate clutter) but contains a few of my lovely things. Vogue Living, a picture of Paris which I picked up last month as I was climbing the Eiffel Tower, cutie birds and some fun books.

There is nothing nicer than in the crazy of the work day, taking two minutes to let your eyes and your mind drift. Happy decorating! xoxo

self expression

It's something we are all encouraged to do. Whether it be in our work place, our hobby, our fashion.. But how does one accomplish self expression in these areas? I sometimes struggle to tie down who I am, let alone what I would like to express.

Sound familiar?
ME: 'Oh I just lov...'
BFF: 'That is so ugly!'
ME: '....I mean, I hate that!'

Story of my life. Perhaps this is where we start to lose our self expression. When we ignore our true feelings about something only to conform to what those closest to us think. Have you ever wondered if maybe our BFF is actually trying to say what they think we may want to hear. Food for thought.

Welcome to Loft by Claire.. where I express in all truth what is in my heart and in my head. xoxo
